River Revival Project Shows Early Signs of Success, Officials Say

Two years into a community-led restoration effort, water quality readings along the Kesar river's seasonal stretch have shown marked improvement, with dissolved oxygen levels nearly doubling at several monitoring points, officials said.

The project relied heavily on desilting old check dams, replanting native vegetation along the banks, and a strict ban on untreated effluent discharge from nearby small industrial units. Local volunteers, many of them students, conducted the bulk of the monitoring work.

"This isn't a finished story yet, it's a two-year snapshot," cautioned the district environment officer, adding that sustained monitoring through at least one more monsoon cycle would be needed before declaring the project a lasting success.
